What Lymphoedema treatment is covered by insurance in Ireland?

L from Donegal

Have been getting treatment for last 3 years. Have had to pay for it privately as medical card does not cover it. Had to travel to Dublin once a month as no therapist in Donegal . This past year a new therapist has set up locally. Have to pay for bandages and compression garments. Also get bandaging done 3 times a week for 2 weeks every 3 months.

K from Dublin

I have Irish Life Health and my policy [Select Plus] gives 5 MLD treatments at €50 each per year. But there’s an excess of €200.

There is no cover at all for garments, bandaging or treatment abroad.

The treatment must be by a therapist on the MLD Ireland list or a physio on the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.
